Working On Retirement Plans And Goals

Updated: Jan 12

How do you see yourself in the next X years? This is a common question that people ask whether shifting careers or simply looking into the future. It's always a smart thing to think ahead than be left behind and cram to catch up.

Life goals vary from person to person, but it's not enough to just sit and let the world pass by without planning for important things. The word 'retirement' may sound negative or even scary to some because it has often been associated with giving up the fun and action.

The truth is, there is no need to give up the good stuff. In fact, there is a saying that life begins at 40! Some people even only start enjoying most of their hobbies and pursue their interests when they retire, since it is when they have all the time in the world.

So where to start? Many people are distracted because they see a lot of shiny objects around them. The key is one word: Focus. When it comes to achieving goals, the focused and patient person always goes a long way, compared to the person who gives up after a few months.

Going Beyond Focus

What should you focus on? This is a good question because you cannot work on something without even knowing what you're working for. Here are some things that you may consider as part of your retirement plans or goals:

1) Health

You need to put health at the top of your list because this is your bread and butter. At the end of the day, all humans will age at some point and in order to prevent most serious diseases, a healthy lifestyle is important. Health is attributed to many factors such as genetics, environment, and lifestyle. If you feel that you need to make better health choices, start with small changes until you are able to achieve your health goals. It's definitely more fun to age with a healthy body.

2) Career

People argue whether they need to do what they love or if they should do what is in demand in order to become successful. In reality, there are successful people who have done both. There are those who accidentally unlock their gifts and those who follow their passions until they can earn from their talents. There is no single formula for success, but consistency can do you favors in the long run. Every bucket of water is made up of tiny drops, so make sure you collect those tiny drops and use them wisely. Celebrate small wins and consistently walk towards your goals, may it be a path you love or a path that people lead you to.

3) Home

Home is where the heart is. It is your safe haven. It is where you will go after all the things you've done for the day. While there is nothing wrong with renting, owning a home gives you more freedom when it comes to designing your space and privacy. As much as there are good landlords out there, there are more limits when living in other people's properties. Homeownership goals are becoming more common these days, which means that apart from people realizing its importance, owning residential properties gives you more opportunities and financial stability. As home prices continue to appreciate, you can have peace of mind knowing that homeownership may allow you to do more things in the future, such as moving to a dream destination, upgrading to a new home, downsizing, and other things that you dream of when you retire.

According to the Federal Reserve Board of New York Survey of Consumer Finances, Homeownership is the largest source of wealth among families, with the median value of the primary residence worth about ten times the median value of financial assets held by families.
